At Madeira Velvet Paws, we believe that true socialization begins in the very first weeks of a kitten’s life. ❤️ For us, it’s far more than occasional handling — it’s a deliberate, daily commitment

From 2–3 weeks of age, we actively interact with the kittens every single day: gently holding them, stroking their fur, speaking softly, and engaging in play. We dedicate at least 2–3 hours of focused “human time” to each litter (beyond the essential care provided by their mother)

We intentionally teach kittens that humans equal fun and safety. Using feather wands, string balls, and catnip-stuffed soft toys, we create positive associations. The key message they receive is simple: people bring joy, never fear. As a result, our kittens develop into exceptionally hand-tame, people-oriented, and self-assured companions

The play area is thoughtfully equipped to support healthy development:

Multi-texture houses and beds at various heights
Tunnels in different sizes for exploration
Natural scratching posts (sisal, cardboard, wood)
Climbing shelves and perches at multiple levels
Interactive puzzle toys that stimulate intelligence and natural hunting instincts

Amelie came into our lives and quietly changed everything with her sweetness and endless energy. She struggled a little at first with the colder temperatures here in Furnas (her eye watered and she sneezed a few times), but with the vet’s help, eye ointment and a short course of anti-inflammatory, she bounced back beautifully and is now perfectly healthy. She eats like a champion, uses her litter tray normally and has settled completely into our home and our routine. She’s an absolute little mischief: she chases us, starts play-fights, runs away laughing, jumps onto our beds and hops down with impressive ease. She has her cute igloo bed for daytime naps, but at night she much prefers curling up right next to us. We have to guard the other cat’s food because Amelie turns into a tiny vacuum cleaner the moment anything drops on the floor 😂 Everyone who visits immediately asks “Where’s Amelie?” — she’s stolen the whole family’s heart. She’s truly the baby of the house, our little princess who arrived exactly when we needed her most, filling our days with laughter, cuddles and pure joy. We’ll spoil her forever. 🥰
